The FAS Committee has ultimate responsibility for the affairs of the society. It meets monthly to take major strategic and financial decisions and to oversee the work of its officers.
The Committee
Maxwell Baldi, President
Maxwell is responsible for the overall management of the society. He chairs the Committee, develops the society’s long-term goals and strategies, works with all officers to ensure they carry out their tasks, and is in charge of strategic, reputational, and operational risk management. Maxwell serves on the Subcommittees on the Academic Conference, Foreign Affairs Review, This Week in Foreign Affairs, to which he is a regular contributor.
Qi Tian, Vice President (Operations)
Qi is responsible for society operations. He deputises for the President in his absence, liases with other societies, and is in charge of the society’s health & safety planning and compliance. Qi serves on the Subcommittees on the Academic Conference, Foreign Affairs Review, and This Week in Foreign Affairs for which he is a regular contributor and former host.
Erik Svanberg, Vice President (Adminstration) and Marketing Officer
Erik is responsible for society administration and for marketing society events and activities. He handles the society’s internal correspondence, maintains all society records, and is in charge of the society’s legal compliance. He is also in charge of producing and distributing publicity for society events.
Courtney Lewis, Vice President (Finance)
Courtney is responsible for society finances. Courtney maintains records of all transactions, approves along with the President most society expenditures, prepares regular reports on the society’s finances, and is in charge of the society’s financial risk management. Courtney serves on the Subcommittee on the Academic Conference.
Sarah Gimont, Conference Coordinator
Sarah has primary responsibility for the annual academic conference. She chairs the Subcommittee on the Academic Conference and oversees all aspects of the planning and operations of SAFAC 2013.
Radim Dragomaca, Editor-in-Chief of the Foreign Affairs Review
Radim has primary responsibility for the St Andrews Foreign Affairs Review. He manages a staff of editors and writers to produce articles for the online Review and its monthly digest and oversees all aspects of production.
Andrew Ferguson, Radio Coordinator
Andrew has primary responsibility for the society’s weekly radio show on St Andrews Radio, This Week in Foreign Affairs. He leads the Subcommittee on This Week in Foreign Affairs and helps devise topics and secure guest appearances.
Matthew Valla, Debates Officer
Matthew has primary responsibility for planning the society’s formal debates and informal ‘Pints & Politics’ roundtables. He selects topics for debates, helps secures speakers and venues for debates, and ensures that debates are well publicised.
Julia Cole, Social Activities Officer
Julia has primary responsibility for planning a series of social events and activities for the society. She is also in charge of managing the responsable consumption of alcohol at society events and for working with the Vice President to ensure health & safety compliance at social events.
